
The City of the Arts and Sciences is an essential visit for those travelling to Valencia.
A spectacular collection of some of Europe's most stunning architecture, the City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia is fast becoming one of Spain's top touristattractions.
This futuristic "city within a city" must surely rank as one of the world's most exciting and imaginative millennium projects.
The entire complex, designed by Valencias´ own Santiago Calatrava consists of an array of white structures bathed in crystal blue lagoons.

You don't have to be an opera buff or science boffin to enjoy a day out here - in fact if you're on a tight budget you can just wander round this incredible "city"without even buying an entrance ticket. You can walk for more than seven kilometres around the complex or catch the Doto train which also takes you on a tour of the leisurearea of the dried up river bed of the River Turia.
Moreover, the City of the Arts and Sciences has a variety of restaurants on offer as well as thematic shops in the different areas. The L'Oceanografic underwater restaurant, with the walls made up of a great aquarium, is to definately to be seen.

The City of Arts and Sciences (in Valencia : Ciutat of les Arts i them Ciències ) is a complex architectural cultural and entertainment in the city of Valencia ( Spain ).
ReplyDeleteThe complex, designed by Santiago Calatrava and Félix candela , was opened on 16 April 1998 with the opening of L ' Hemisfèric. The final major component of the city of Arts and Sciences, the Palace of Arts Reina Sofía, was presented in society on 9 October 2005, day of the Valencian Community, although its regular programming did not start until the autumn of 2006.
The city of Arts and Sciences is located at the end of old riverbed the Turia , channel which became Garden in the 1980s , after the diversion of the river by the great flood in Valencia in 1957. Today, is more tourist claim of the city of Valencia.
Buildings comprising it are, by order of opening:
• l ' Hemisfèric : shaped eye. Cinema IMAX, Planetarium and laser projection room. Has an approximate area of 13,000 m².
• Museum of the science Prince Philip : with similar to the skeleton of a way dinosaur , is an interactive Museum of science. Concerns about 40,000 m² spread over three floors.
• l ' Umbracle : walk landscaped with native plant species in the Valencian Community (Cistus, lentisca, Rosemary, lavender, honeysuckle, bougainvillaea, Palm,...) covered by floating arches from where you can see all the complex of the city of Arts and Sciences. Hosts inside the tour of the sculptures , a gallery of art outdoor with sculptures of contemporary authors. (Miquel Navarro, Francesc Abad, Yoko Ono and others...)
• l ' Oceanogràfic : is Europe's largest aquarium. Your cover in the form of water lily is architect Félix Candela.Se work is the largest Oceanographic Europe with 110,000 square metres and 42 million litres of water.
• Palace Art Queen Sofia : four large rooms: a main Hall Aula magistral, amphitheatre House Theatre. Exhibition room. Is dedicated to the music and performing arts.
• the Bridge de l 'Assut de l' or that communicates the round the Menorca Street, South and whose pilono 125 meters is the highest point of the city.
• the Agora : A covered, square currently under construction, which held concerts and sporting events such as the great prize of the Valencian Community of tennis.
• the Torres Valencia, Castellón and Alicante : part of a project consisting of the construction of three skyscrapers 308 m, 266 m and 220 m. The project is currently stopped and there are few posibildades that is carried forward.
